Not really according to my farrier, the oil is more expensive I think, the best value is the large tub of the solid stuff (have a look at Ingatestone Saddlery, Essex). Oil useful at this time of year as in the heat the other stuff turns to liquid but then solidifies when cools down again. We buy the big tub and decant it into a smaller one so big tub not kicking about in the heat.
 
My farrier always recommenced the solid type, I buy it cheaper that that Ebay advert locally from a Farriery Supplier & I know it's fairly heavy but that postage price seems a little high. You may do better sourcing it locally.
 
I just bought the solid one from that ebay seller, love it. However I only bought it because I was getting thermatex leg wraps at the same time and postage for all additional items were free, otherwise there is no way I would pay that much for it.

I also put a best offer in and got it for £10.
