Friend of mine has been watching a lorry on ebay - it is an LT50, looks in great condition etc for its age and exactly what she wants.
However, the advert clearly states it can be driven on a post 1997 licence by any driver who has their car licence. I wasn't sure about this as I though the LT35 was the 3.5t, the LT40 the 4t and the LT50 the 5t version?
So I emailed the vendor and she said it is OK for post 1997 drivers because it is under 3.5t unladen - I'm sure that is not the case but she was so convinced I'm doubting myself now! It doesn't really matter re this lorry as my frined wasn't the winning bidder but now she wants to check this as it would mean she could look at lots more 5t lorries if it was true that she could drive them on her car only licence if they are under 3.5t unladen?!?

best way to get the correct answer to this is to get your friend to root out her licence and riing teh DVLA and tell them what catagories are on the licence and ask them what she can drive!

She's on a new licence. I will tell her to ring DVLA but just wondered if anyone on her knew - usually people are pretty informative about this kind of stuff!

If she passed after 97 then she can't drive it without taking a test. Doesn't matter what unladen weight is it is the classified full weight of the vehicle - in this case 5t

I replied to the seller, she called the dvla and was told she had been driving illegally - although they told her previously she was ok! Good to know they are clear on these things
