My mare doesn't like the meal very much (I feed 1/2 cup) and leaves it at the bottom of her bucket no matter what I mix it with so I was wondering if the oil has the same benefits as the meal? I use the meal in winter for coat shine, omega supplementation and condition maintenance. The meal is cheaper to buy, but year on year is a pain to get her to eat. Would oil work just as well?

yes the oil would be fine. I have the other problem with one of mine, she licks the meal out of the bottom of the bucket, but pulls her face if theres liquid oil on her feed.

What about if her feed is wet and the linseed is stuck in there, does she just leave her food completely?

I've tried mixing it into the usual suspects; mollassed beet, tasty course-mix, copra meal, molly chaff, etc. She just picks and picks and picks at her feed until the majority of what ever's most covered in the meal is left at the bottom of the bucket. She took forever eating her 1 scoop of conditioning cubes this morning until I realised they'd been tipped straight on top of last nights leftovers (tsk, tsk) and she was having to pick the nuts out individually.

Edited to add: I've been feeding the linseed meal to her during the winter all of her life (homebred) so you think she'd have resigned herself to it now. I guess after all this time, I can determine she genuinely doesn't like it.

omg thats dedication to being fussy! :D

Most of mine eat anything I put in front of them, I suspect if I put a puppy in a bucket theyd go nomnom puppies today is it :p

Definately sounds like liquid oil is the way to go then, not worth persevering with meal if she doesnt like it :)

VERY close to me :D

I still get mine via the 4dobbin website - delivered, as I tried getting Mole Avon to order it in for me last year but they weren't able to get it via Bones. Mind you, 4dobbin are REALLY good and fast delivery for x2 20kg bags is only £4.95. Bargain! I'd recommend them if you're not using them already (http://www.4dobbin.com/p-CoolStance-Copra-Meal-Stance.html)

EAK!!

:D

My boy (and my old mare) won't eat ANY oil in their feeds so I would try a v small bottle to start with as you may well find that he likes the oil even less.

My boy was a touch picky about the meal but I mix it up well with speedibeet and initially used NAF mint mixed in with it, which got him eating up. :)
