.. at your livery yards. If so, how much?

Trying to work out if I am being charged too much.....?

When I was moving yards I went to view a place and when I asked if they charged for storing trailers/lorries she said;

''if I charge you to store your vehicle it then means that if something happens to it - stolen/arson etc, then we are liable, as you have in effect paid us to look after it''

I have never really thought it before but I suppose she is right. Previous yard it was £5 per week to store a trailer!

£3 a week I think (just bought trailer so not sure exactly!)

You've got a trailer then? Cool - did you get it from Julie?

You guys are all lucky - on our yard its roughly £30 a month for a lorry and £20 a month for a trailer in a locked gated area.

Hmmm you see I have never charged anyone to store a trailer or a lorry but that was mainly because I had the space. It is something I think a good livery and particularly a competition yard should offer.

I am charged £240 a year to store my trailer at my livery yard, but its a farm and there is loads of space!

I personally think thats really expensive, unless of course, by taking the charge from me they are accepting liability for it. But then it is insured in my name and stored at their yard on the insurance cert so I don't see how that they work?

I would mind less about the charge if it was secured and locked up in a gated area but it isn't. When I had my yard I locked people's trailers up in a secure building and didn't charge for it. Hmmm starting to feel a bit annoyed now!

Nats - I phoned Julie (nice lady) and had a long chat but she had nothing in at the time and said she would put me on her list so to speak and in the meantime a lady at the yard asked me if I wanted to buy her one year old trailer and I jumped at it as it was a decent trailer at a good price and I didn't have to leave the yard!

Questions for those that store outside - how do you look after it and stop it rusting in the rain?

Nope, but not entirely happy about where it is going at the moment, as it will be standing on earth.... Hopefully they are getting hardstanding soon otherwise I can see myself a) getting stuck and b) fretting about my wooden floor!

I do know of a yard where it is £30 a week for lorry or trailer - thankfully we have ours at home so dont pay anything.

£5.50 a week for lorry. The trailers are less and are kept on grass near the muck heap that gets quite boggy. I used to put my lorry there but then realised when I got stuck in the mud that it wasn't suitable, and as I was paying quite a bit to store it at the yard I insisted it went on hard standing on the yard!!!

Where I used to be (7/9 years ago) is was £3/week for trailers and £5/week for lorries, but the place to put them was terribly cramped and the car parking actually meant that you parked in front of all the traielrs/lorries, which always caused problems when people needed to get them out as everyone had to move their cars. Nightmare!!

We pay £30 a month which from all th replies posted above is expensive however where it is located on the yard very few people will know where it is and the yard is padlocked and alarmed so it makes it worth it.

I pay £5 extra a week for my lorry parking but once had to pay £1 a day for a trailer, but they were basically trying to discourage people from doing it.

Nothing. I also get hard standing and can use the pressure washer to clean it.
