Quick Question please

Hi, I've just arranged for a dealer to come & view my horse at lunchtime today with the thought that he would take him on sales livery. This has happened a bit quickly and I'm wondering what usually happens in this situation as obviously if he takes my horrse today I have no horse and no money. Would it be usual for there to be some sort of contract etc?

Do you know the dealer? I wouldn't let the horse off your yard until you have something in writing and you know where it is going - we sold one through a 'sales livery' and had a contract that specified the selling price, outlined costs whilst on livery etc. Also if the horse is insured you must let your insurance company know where the horse is going to be or you may invalidate your policy.
Ours took a while to sell, and that was last year when the market was slightly better, so although we got the asking price, gave over £1000 of it back to cover the livery bill. The dealer appeared very thorough, but did have to keep hassling her to get him advertised, as she kept saying 'just one more week for fine tuning'...
