When Leah's crunching on her bone, her gums end up bleeding from gnawing so hard on it. This doesn't deter her at all, and it's not like they're bleeding profusely, just a little bit - should I take the bone off her if she's making herself bleed, or is it okay to let her carry on chewing? Normally I let her carry on for a while and then take it away when I decide her poor mouth has taken enough of a beating! Just wondering if I ought to take it away as soon as any blood appears, even if she has only had the bone for a few minutes.

My old girl's gums used to bleed when she chewed bones, didn't seem like a biggie at the time and B's do when he is having a go at one of his chew toys, I take it off him and then give him another go later. It is one with rubber 'teeth' in it.

None of ours ever had problems with their teeth or gums. The old girl had one missing but that's because she thought it would be a good idea to polish off a wooden dumbell

My gums bleed when I brush my teeth so I don't tend to worry so much when the dogs' do

(And yes, I am under supervision from my dentist

Thanks - I'll let her continue her fun for a little bit longer then.

She's curled round it so lovingly at the moment, I think it's her baby. Although that would make her a cannibal.

I agree, I would let her carry on chewing the bone

It will be so helpful at stopping tartar build up etc

I have to go to the Royal College of Dentistry for a charming little procedure as soon as I build up the courage and the cash (Don't panic, I have a hereditary condition which I am currently ignoring

Sorry, back on topic!
