Are you allowed to jump your horse at unaffiliated events when you also jump the same horse at affiliated level (BSJA) in the bigger height classes? is it a case that you can but really it's not really the thing to do

As long as you abide by the rules of the class it doesnt matter if you're affiliated or not. Usually they say things like 'combination not to have won before' in novice classes or something like that - so long as you check the rules then I don't see a problem.

Obviously if you're jumping Foxhunter and then go in a 75cm local class it's not really very fair, but there are plenty of people who aren't affiliated and have good horses who go in classes smaller than they probably should.

It depends on the individual classes. Some classes have a restriction (eg - combination not to have won more than £££ at whatever height). Some have a restriction on bsja horses competing at all.

Personally I would compete HC unless there was a reason for jumping the smaller classes (ie recovering from injury or something) otherwise it's just not cricket!

As long as the max prize money for first place is not greater than £10 and show rules do not prohibit then technically not a problem.
As to whether taking an experienced BSJA horse in an unaff open is morally right - thats up to the individual.
Personally I cant see point of entering Unaff and winning less than the entry fee when I can go play BSJA and occasionally come home with extra money in my pocket.

Ok thanks guys, I was not sure about the whole thing, reason I asked is I was competing yesterday (someone else's horse) unaffiliated/Trailblazers show and also watching where I could, anyway winning with a cracking little jumping horse (you could tell the were in a different league and I thought what a great pair), but then noticed this morning on some other local competition centre websites the same horse and rider competing BAJA but a hell of a lot bigger jumps.

But I'm not clued on all this jumping lark anymore and didn't know if you could do this, no probs if not just seemed a bit unfair...then again there is nothing stopping anyone going affilliated if they have the talant etc but just thought you'd stick to that rang of talant once you were at that level if you see what I mean.
