Qualified for a Riding club pony competition and the county final is tommorow. I've been playing with different nosebands with my boy at the moment and cannot decide which one to show him in. I normally show him in a flash as I've been told a judge would prefer it (seems a bit odd to me:confused:) but he goes well in a grackle, better in a drop, but I've never seen anyone showing in a drop! Just checking really, is a drop okay for showing? It's affiliated if that makes a difference. And for any showing judges reading - I know bits can help make desicions, do nosebands the same?
Sorry if it doesn't make sense!
Thank you :)

I think you should use whatever you feel he goes best in. But my preference would be a flash or drop for a show class. Perhaps someone might correct me but I think the reason you don't see drops anymore is they are out of fashion!

This is a very difficult one. Ideally you should only be in a cavesson, with nothing more.

Definately not the grackle. It's far to strong - you want to display your pony's suitability for dressage so use dressage legal tack only.

The problem with the drop is that it makes horse's ugly. Your pony may have the prettiest face in the world, but a drop will make it plain. It is a showing class afterall, so this needs to be taken into acount.

There is no real right answer here. You need to make a choice depending on how much the difference between the drop and the flash on your pony's performance.

Bare in mind, pony club/riding club pony and workers are the only classes you can get away with these nosebands in. For any other classes you are doing, it needs to be a plain cavesson only.

Should be a cavesson.

definate no no to a grackle.

At local shows I see people in an array of nosebands, but technically should be a cavesson. If you haven't got one, then Id say the flash.

Thanks for all the replies! It's Marriages riding club pony of the year. The only rule is regarding bridles, is that they be snaffle, any noseband is allowed. I agree with what you're all saying re the cavesson, and in an ideal world all horses would go perfectly in them, but sadly not. He's normally in a drop or grackle as he crosses his jaw, although the drop is new and obviously with a grackle not being dressage legal I've done a lot with him in the flash and he's been ok. Sounds like the flash would be best?
