If you have a horse who was imported into the country from, for example, Holland, as a 5 year old, will that horse have to have had a passport to come here? Or will its breed papers have sufficed as travel documents?

That's interesting. What Ellie has are just breed papers, from NRPS. But to have been brought over here ( I bought her from a UK dealer) she must have had a passport...funny, I've never seen it....

That sounds a little bit dodgy! erm,, I guess as you've bought her, you'll just have to get another passport and forget about it! I hope she's a nice horsey anyhow.

I thought it was dodgy too.....funny how its taken me 7 years to even realise!

I've had her long enough, you'd think it would have occured to me befor now!

She is lovely, so apart from a missing-presumed-fobbed-off-on-another-horse passport, it was the best dodgy deal I've ever had! LOL!

ive had my mare 7years to - when i took my older horse over to belgium to compete he didnt need a passport just had a vet check and lots of paperwork !!

all the horses at the yard i used to be on who were imported only came with papers and no passport !!

Ah well that's lovely. You must have had trouble having her immunised without a passport? Or did you just go ahead and get one at the time?

[/ QUOTE ]

Vet seemed fine just to use her papers! We got an immunisation certificate based on them, so i guess that's why it hasnt dawned on me before!

Sounds like its quite common though, so thats ok!

Maybe she was actually brought over before passports became compulsory. Don't you need their passports with immunisation records to compete?

you do know but 7 years ago you just had a vet card - my vets copied my mares markings off her papers and issued me with one !! I still have it somewhere - then we were all made to get passports and i had her vaccinations transferred into there !

Your horse was imported before the passport legislation came into force, so absolutely no reason she could not be imported with just her breed papares. You best hurry and get one now then!!
