I have seen lots of posts re leads and collars.

What do people recommend?

I have a lupi for Trojan as his neck vertebrae are slightly out of allignment so he cant have a collar that pulls on the neck.The lupi controls by tightening across the chest. Emma has similar breeding so could be affected in a similar way but wont know for another month or so. It shows uo at 8-9 months.

I could use the lupi but tbh she doesnt need that amount of restraining although it might be best until we are sure she is ok. I have found harnesses a waste of time tbh as the mastiffs tend to be able to pull more in a harness. The lupi is a pain if you want to let them off the lead too. Trojan doesnt go off the lead much. Long story.

Kitty posted about a lead but i have no idea what it was and how it works.

And would just like to add I think this is the friendliest part of the forum! :)

I've heard good things about the Metuki harness.

Gencon, Dogmatic and Canny are other headcollars you could try.

The Lupi was no good for me at all, B threw all his weight into it (and I threw out my back trying to hold him :o) and rubbed all the hair from under his elbows and across his chest. It now gets a knot tied in it and a long line attached for when we go to the beach!
He has a harness for tracking but I have zero control over him in it (that's the idea, the harness lets him go where he wants after a scent!!!)

I think Kitty was posting about the double-clip training lead, correct me if I am wrong, it's just a lead.

Yes that sounds like the lead. I guess you can shorten it or lengthen it. I think the lupi is ok for short walks and Mastiffs only do short walks LOL! I dont like the way it cuts in and tightens but doesnt easily loosen.

I will have a look at the others you mentioned.

Yep, here's one, a bloke at the club had one last week and didn't know what the g-clip on the end was for :p it's great for teaching manners, you can attach one end to a normal flat collar or harness and the other end to the item of your choice (Choke, headcollar, p*nch, when you need more control)

No idea about different collars and leads:rolleyes: - mine both have leather collars for general hoiking out of disgusting things:rolleyes: and then little used leads (Spudlet and Hen will both testify to my dogs lead aversion....;):D) for when they are allowed out in public. Max's is purple for maximum humiliation:D and is a slip and Sweep has a padded half check with matching lead in red.:D

Friendly?:confused: us?? :confused::confused:don't you just mean nuts??:confused::D:D:D
