Right, I'm due to take my ABRS tests 7 & 8 at the end of this year. Going to get some training off my instructor nearer the time. Looking through the tests and I'm a little comfused.

On test's 7 sections 1 and 2 baffle me. Great start!

1. Understand the function of the bridoon and curb bits.

I know about curbs ect but what is a bridoon??

2. Ride sympathetically with a double bridle through turns, circles, loops and transitions.

What does it mean ride sympathetically? As in gently??

I'm fine with the rest of test 7. But test 8 looks a bit daunting!!

1. Show and discuss and show how to work a horse in, up to and including basic lateral movements.
2. Ride shoulder in, in trot on both reins.
3. Show canter work in preparation for counter canter. Be able to discuss the movements, the reasons for choosing them and the benefits of riding counter canter.
4. Discuss collected and extended strides in walk, trot and canter. Understand the aids, and the benefits and what can go wrong.
5. Try to show collected and extended strides in walk, trot and canter, maintaining a good, balanced position.

So I have to do all that (and think I can do it with practise) ^^ and then..

6. Show all the above on a second horse. !!!!!!

So yeah!! EEEEEEPP!

But if anybody can explain to me what a bridoon is that would be fab!!

Thank You.

A bridoon/bradoon is the other bit used in a double bridle.

I would imagine sympathetically means that you are takinginto account the fact the a doube bridle is a lot stronger than a standard bridle and you aren't hanging onto the mouth...

Good luck...

Seriously, do you not have Google? There you could find a definition for bridoon, and for 'quick'!

Here is a dictionary definition for bridoon: Dictionary and here are some pictures: Pics on this page. There is an even better definition in Wiki: Bradoon There are two ways of spelling it, I have just discovered. Don't say nobody ever helps you!

To be fair, I reckon about half the queries on the forum could be answered with a quick Google. However, as Elizabefx wanted some non-Googleable information as well I don't really see what harm there is in including the question in her post!

QR TGM.

Lizzie, that test sounds really quite hard! I think, rather than me or anyone else writing an essay, your instructor will be better explaining both verbally and through demonstrations. And I think the_watcher's description of sympathetic in the context required is spot on.

Best of luck.

I would go to your instructor now and start preparing as it sounds like the PC B test which is quite hard and it depends what standard your at but it could take a lot of training.
