QUICK!!! Rear unload on trailers?

OH MY GOD my dad is going to buy me a trailer tonight!
He is on a VERY tight budget (under 1500) but we have found a couple of light enough ones.

Problem-All the cheap ones seem to have rear ramps only?

Does anyone have any problems with this? Does it teach them to back out automatically?

QUICK! Please! :D
 
I had a rear unloader for years & non were fussed by it! They never backed straight back out, only when I asked them to!

Just on another note though, when I bought my current trailer a few years ago I got a very tidy ifor 505 with front ramp for £1200 (that was my budget limit). It does have a wooden floor but with proper management has been no trouble at all in the 5yrs I've owned it xx
 
I had a rear unload and my youngster was fine at coming out and never had a problem. I still often unload backwards with my new trailer rather than be bothered to undo the bars and the front ramp.

I always used to rear unload my TBs as she would try to rush and jump the front ramp.

Work on your horse to make sure the will back up on command and in a straight line in the school before you unload them as this make life far easier.

I also train mine to have their rope undone, then the back ramp down, rear bars off and wait until I come round the front and ask them to come out. I am often on my own and this makes life easier. I do undo the rope and just leave it looped over the front bar as for me this is preferable than then pulling back when tied whilst in a trailer.
 
when I was a girl ( and I'm not even that old) most trailers were rear unload only. I think it's actually easier if you've got two on to go off backwards FWIW. It's usually pretty tight for the horse on the ramp side otherwise!
 
We have an IW 505 & also rarely use the front ramp. It is wise to spend sometime teaching them to back up first though, having a horse that refuses to reverse of a trailer is a nightmare, especially if youve been at a show all day & you are shattered (& yes i do speak from experience lol).
 
Before I had my own trailer I used to share with my friend. She had the big ifor 510 and used the grill with the partition so if I was on the left side and wanted out, I'd back out. However pony is very smart and one day the back was down for some reason I think I was on my own and hand to take the back down myself, and he decided he'd back out himself! Que me running like an idiot to undo his rope in case he snapped it and had a fit.
 
Back in the days when we owned a trailer, we had a 2 horse richardson front unload, however never used the front unload, only rear unload. Most people I know with trailers back their horses off too, it's much easier.
 
For your budget I bought a Fautras Provan which does have a front ramp, but not a back one! It has barn doors and a lowered back so the horses step on. I love it! They are rare though.
