I'm taking my friend's mare to do an in-hand class at a show next week ... can I just wear plain black trousers and jodhpur boots with a shirt, tie and show jacket?

Thanks

yep, but usually the trousers are opposite to the colour of the horses legs so the judgecan distinguish them when you trot up.

With coloureds, you normally tend to wear a tweed jacket - even with non hairies, but if local showing, don't worry.

Avoid black jackets, hats and gloves if you can as these are not correct unless you are a gent in the show ring. If you can get hold a show cane this helps finish the picture and have your hair either in a plait or bun or netted if long.

Personally and this is my preference, I would rather use a dark colour other than black trousers when showing as I wear a tweed. A fair few people use beige trousers for coloured showing. I have brown trousers for the brown tweed and dark green or navy for the green tweed with navy collar - I am a woman of too many show clothes

Good luck and I hope you have fun.

Ditto, hate black trousers with a horse of any colour, they look really tacky.
