Quick survey- Jill'sGymkana

For those of you who have not read the book it's about a girl who finds a pony and miraculously wins everything in the county( just retracing it with a friend's daughter)

So here is the question

How many of you have got a red (or blue if you're PC or from the US) rossy first time out with a new horse (closest I've come is a second... But I still dream;))

Her mum buys the pony Black Boy.

Yep Zebedee was my best ever horse - we won so many firsts it was quite embarrasing, came homoe our first show together with 14 rosettes. Loved riding home with our rosettes tied to our bridles showing off to the world how clever our horses had been.

Jill toook 3 firsts, 3 seconds and a third.
I always thought that 7 classes in one day was a bit much.
Poor old Black Boy.

That was Chatton Show, a year after she had him.

We have to think though, and an auntie agrees with me...back in those days, ponies were super-fit, they got up to ride at dawn....and did nothing but ponies, ponies, ponies all day and everyday! 7 classes was probably the norm...

No computers etc etc to take your interest away.....and no worries about undesirable folks about!

First time back in the year after 25 years I took loan coloured showing - got three firsts and reserve champion. Never done it before or since.

She didn't even cost me the £60 that Black Boy did (early edition of Jills Gymkhana - think his name changed in later editions)

Black boy only cost £5. And it wasn't her first show that she won at. As far as I remember she fell off or something at her first show and was feeling really down, but then her mum told her that she'd overheard someone say she was surprised Jill hadn't won anything as she was the most promising rider of the lot.

Can you tell I still love those books?!

Also, in one book I read, black boy had magically changed his name to danny boy? (or vice versa, can't remember which one came first!)
