Quick tips/ideas please

im off to spend the rest of the afternoon with my oldie pony. I am hoping to teach him some new tricks, he can bow down and shake a hoof

Was wondering on the best way to teach him to lie down, and any other tricks to teach him

Never done it with a horse but with Cats and Dogs you start by getting them to touch a 'trigger' like the end of the whip as soon as they touch it praise and reward. Intermittent rewarding is more motivating than treating every time. Once they have the idea they should touch the trigger you can develop more complicated behaviours like following the trigger through a tunnel etc. There are loads of books on this type of training it is how they get animals to perform in films.
