Hi, just looking for any explanations, so please feel free to comment.
7 year old mare, regularly seen by dentist, started quidding big time Christmas eve, vet came out on 27th Dec and again 0n 29th Dec. On 30th Dec she seemed to have stopped quidding and all was well. That is until 2nd Jan, intermittently quidding over next few days, called dentist out as vet had been unable to find anything wrong, dentist couldn't find anything either. Called vet again and pony is due to be endoscoped on 28th Jan, no noticeable loss of condition and no less droppings but masses of spat out food and every now and then a sludge in the bottom of her water bucket. She appears fine, alert and is not showing any signs of discomfort, I am flummoxed!

are you sure its quidding rather than regurgitating?? maybe she has a partial blockage in her oesophagus that only intermittently causes her problems...but the endoscope should find that out for you! i wouldnt worry as long as she's still happy, just wait and see what endoscope says.

not being funny bean88 but horses can not regurgitated. thats is called choke. i can not under stand why she is doing this if her teeth are fine hopefully the scopes will show up something. good luck!

That is strange, as quidding is 9/10 a dental problem!!!!
hmmmm flumoxing indeed!
I honestly can't think of anything else except maybe choke, but I would have expected her to appear REALLY not well if that was the case!

If the endo's show anything letus know!

my sisters horse suffers from something very simular which also has everyone very confused. He quidds something rotten, its all down to some work he had done (before my sister owned him) by a densit with an electric rasp...... he keeps going to our dentist every couple of months as he is trying to level out his teeth, but after the most recent vist our dentist was totally shocked at how bad her horse is with his quidding. So I would be very interested to see what your endos bring up as she is contemplating doing something simular.

hope its nothing too serious... horses eh !!!!

Well, our pony was admitted to pony hospital yesterday, after endoscoping, x-raying and thorough visual inspection of her mouth there is nothing obviously wrong causing this problem. There is an enlarged lymph gland in one of her gutteral pouches. At least now the vets treating her have seen her quidding 1st hand, she's been doing it all afternoon!
Current school of thought is possible damaged nerves in the gutteral pouch as apparently these are heavily involved in swallowing action, don't know why this would be intermittent though? Anyway more tests tomorrow, will update soon.
