I've posted this under a new username as don't want to appear a numpty, but here it goes........

brought a horse had him 9 months, winter was bad so couldn't ride alot, admittedly it could have been a bit of a confidence thing on my part, he was an impulse buy, and wasn't sure if i wanted him as i wanted a soppy temperment, but he was rude, bolshy, moody and stressed but something about him made me want him, so now your asking yourself whats her problem then?
well the last owner has been chatting on the grapevine and keeps asking has she hacked him out?? im now thinking there is a problem somewhere? but i have hacked him out and he is very green, but nothing i can't handle, but now im constantly thinking while were out whats he gonna do im waiting for it, but nothing than the odd spook or buck of excitment..... please tell me im over reacting and being silly or do you think that there is something he does she knows and is keeping it from me?

am i paranoid:eek:

sounds like previous owner was more bothered by his behaviour/less confident than you, I wouldn;t worry too much and just try to crack on and enjoy.

Yes you are being paranoid. Clearly sounds like old owner was much less confident than you. Some people freak out at a little spook or buck and transmit their fears especially with a green horse. He needs all the confidence he can get hacking from his rider.

So ignore and enjoy him. You must by now know how nasty the horse world can be! Don't listen.

Its pointless listening to what a previous owner says about a horses bad behaviour once you have got the horse.
Remember also maybe she was less experienced or confident than you or maybe the horse is happier or more settled with you it doesnt really matter, i honestly beleive the less you look for bad behavoiur the less it happens relax and enjoy him.

I have bought several horses and been told different things one needed sedatives to be shod but actually it was fine with farrier, another i was told was a nightmare to hack out he was a little green and nappy but soon settled, i could go on. Judge the horse on its behaviour now and put what she has said out of your head or it will only worry you and you may pass your nerves on to the horse.

Well if you like him or you wouldn't have bought him and doing the sensible thing and taking your time to get to know him. Does sound like the previous owner wants something to happen to justify why she sold him, so it was him not her, if you see what I mean. Best of luck with him and enjoy:):):)

My advice would be to try and relax and enjoy your hacks. I bought a horse from Germany and he was a horror for a good few months. I am a fairly experienced and confident rider but he tested me big time. He is a big strong lad and horribly spooky. He has huge attitude but would never purposely try to get me off. I seriously doubted whether I would be keeping him but just got on with it and have now had him 7 years. I love him, attitude and all, and would never sell him on.
Give him him time. You say you haven't done much since you got him so just go with the flow and enjoy. :)
