My big TB mare always watches me when i change her rug in the morning, she always stands in the same place - head in corner by the stable door, standing diagonally and sorta watches me out the corner of her eye

i know shes looking at me cause i always say, whatcha looking at? and she turns her head right around and starts the licking and chewing

The baby coblet always nibbles my hands and when i scratch/rub her wither area she nuzzles me back

What little quirky/funny things does your horse do with you?
 
when i scratch brodies back she falls asleep and rocks a bit and when i scratch annies she scratches mine lol Yogi he likes it when u rub his chest and he rests his head on your shoulder you have to crouch down though cos hes the height of sh*te x
 
Delicia always nuzzles me when I bandage/unbandage her legs or rug her up. She playfully nips if I stand by her stable but ignore her and twists her head to the side to get attention. Gotta love her quirkes.
 
Danny likes to wave/throw his feed buckets at people, especially if I don't pay him enough attention straight away in the mornings

He also likes to 'help' fasten his rugs.
He used to do all sorts of silly things when I put fetlock boots on him but has stopped this now... he used to try to walk while waving (and I mean waving, not kicking) his back legs around!

One of ours throws the feedbucket over the stable door when she's finished, and also turns the tap on when she's tied up next to it and has a drink

When i'm leading Roger and he's in a funny mood he'll flick his head, usually to the right, quite often then i ask him to trot and he flicks his head really quickly and normally pulls the leadrope out of my hand.
He did it when i was trotting him up for the chiro yesterday, she thought he was hilarious.
 
Boo sticks her nose at me so i will kiss it. And she's all pregnant and round so she can't reach those itchy spots. So whenever i change her rugs at night she 'points' to where she wants a scratch and i itch it for her. She would do this all day if she could though so i have to stop at some point lol

Osc stands with one back leg raised when he's stressed. Either one, he's not fussy about it. And he's an absolute terror of a houdini, can't leave him anywhere! Has just broken a gate off when we've put clips on so he can't get the latches open. Not because he wants to be in or out, just because he likes to play with stuff and go exploring anywhere he's not allowed

Tom pulls faces at you and runs his teeth along the metal top of his door to get your attntion. He also uses his chin to break ice in the field trough. He Always has a wee when he hears you making up feeds. He refuses to drink water in his stable and instead wants to drink puddles. He likes to throw things at the farrier when he's shoeing Ron. If i change his rugs before Ron's and leave them in the stable he puts them in his water trough, if that fails in goes the grooming kit.

When we feed in the field in the summer Ron throws his bucket at you when he's finished. He normally throws him self at the ground from a trot and rolls wherever he lands. Except yesterday when he hit the ground and got straight up as it was soooo hard!

Ron also snorts every time you turn the clippers on or off even when you're not clipping him! Ron falls asleep in wagons and at hunt meets. Properly eyes shut and curled up sleep in wagons, and head and lip drooping snooze at meets!
 
Cappy throws his brushes and spray when he has had enough of grooming. He also says please if he wants a treat, he puts his (extremely long) neck out and turns his head,he will also do it before you give him a treat if you say "say please"

One of his funniest thing was when we put the restrictor on his lick he took it off and threw it at Elizabeth! Also when he had to have a small bucket hewas not impressed and actually turned the bucket upside down to check there was nothing underneath.

His cleverest trick is to do with his fear of electric fencing, he goes over and listens carefully to the battery, if it is humming he gathers up the ponies and runs them into it, to pull it down. He then calmly steps over the tape and into the field he wants to be in.

TBH he can be a g*t, but he has character and I love it!
 
My chap dozes in the stable with this bottom lip hooked over the rubber stall chain thing, like hes got all his weight on it, eyes closed. Stands like that for hours, like her's got a dummy in.

He also stands with his fore leg really up and out when you are walking towards him to bring him in from the field. He does it when he wants his feed too.

He will stand for hours with his tongue pointing out, not to the side but straight out in front, whether alert or dozing.

And he seems to have a really ticklish dock so when I put a bandage on, or worse when I plait his tail, he minces from side to side, really wriggling it like a puppy!
 
Missy does the following ....

If the stable door is open, she will swing it back and forward .

She will lift the wheel barrow and empty it

She will fling headcollars across the barn narrowingly missing your head .

She will drink from the poured bucket whilst I tip the water into her main bucket .

She loves her arse being scratched and lifts her tail up, She will also shove her arse in your face in an attempt to get you to scratch .

She will stick her head into her headcollar if she knows she is going out to the field .

She will untie herself .

She drinks from the hose .

She will pull rugs/brushes/headcollars/saddle clothes, anything that is basically in her reach and scatter them .

Whilst your trying to brush the floor she will try and literally take the brush from your hand .

If she knows your putting boots on her, she will lift her feet and not set them down again until you basically shout at her .. " DOWN"

One of mine twists his head to the side shows you his teeth and then you can count to 3, and he will bang the door, (v.naughty habit- anyone got a cure?!)

He has a hanging manger and as eats he gets so agressive it NEVER stays on the door- although sometimes goes the wrong side then he has a look on his face of absolute horror!!

He used to have a bucket on floor but it never stayed in stable for him to finish eating

My other boy, you can say "kiss please" and he will lift his nose to your face and give you kisses

lovely boy, although his antics are too many to list.

His main trick is that he disconnects the battery from the fence unit with his teeth, then walks through the fence, if he cant reach the unit- (because I AM smarter than him) he lifts the posts from the ground just to prove the point

I don't have a pony of my own but my share mare "asks" for treats in two ways:

If you put one in the palm of your hand just out of reach she stretches her head out and then turns it to one side (it sometimes looks like she is even trying to bat her eyelashes)

If you hold the treat in your fist and hold the fist (plam down) to her nose she taps your hand with her top lip to ask for it.

If you scratch her neck she will nuzzle your back, if you scratch near her tail she will lift her tail up so you can get to those itchy bits she can't quite reach!

Whilst eating she holds her foreleg out straight in front of her, and swaps from one leg to the other every 20 seconds or so.

She is a lovely little mare and I'm constantly glad I share her!
 
The Spooky Pony has a thing about clothing fasteners: buttons, toggles, zippers, velcro---they all get pulled, undone, or twanged.

I don't bother tying a knot in the leadrope any more, because he'll immediately start mouthing it. I just loop it through the twine loop, and he'll happily stand there for hours and snooze.

He has the usual complement of itchy spots, and if you scratch one, he will make "long-neck-wibbly-face", and often groom you in return.

Often, he won't release his bit immediately when you take his bridle off, but will hold it, nibbling at the joint in the middle with his front teeth.
 
Harvey will:

slap his lips in his water 2 or 3 times before having a drink

Wave his left leg about whilst eating

Put his head in his headcollar, but only if you say "'ere, head in there!"

'talks' to our car engine. We have a noisy diesel and he recognises the noise of it, so when we come down the lane he follows the car from his field, shouting to us

Winnie will:

Put her face very close to yours and wiggle her lip on your cheek.
 
Mattie throws things. He had some rubber trugs in his field once as water buckets. He used to knock them over and fling them over the hedge.
Used to encourage his field mate to eat the cars in peoples gardens and then acted all innocent.
He stole a fence once (that was interesting)
He likes zips, elastic and Velcro and will pull/undo/ping it at you. He broke my friends coat pulling at the Velcro.
Drinks out of the hose and steals it off you.
Loves his tail being scratched and will reverse at speed towards you so you can scratch it and will follow you around the field begging.
Grabs hold of belts and picks people up by them.
Undoes the farriers apron every time!
Will take brushes/brooms/gloves off you
Communicates by snorting.
Steals the Poo Picking tools off you and swings them around.

Life is interesting when Mattie is around!
 
If when I get to the yard i don't put my horse out straight away he will grab his headcollar which hangs outside the door and throw it and anything else that's hanging up across the yard!
He will tell me where to scratch him, seems a popular one amongst horses, lazy sods!
He will open his mouth for the bit when tacking up and put his nose in his headcollar for going out, but if he has to wear his muzzle or doesn't want to go out will 'hide' in the corner of the stable, I do tell him though that at 16.2 I can actually still see him!
When I bring in if my daughter is with me and closes the gate he will not walk on until she catches up with us!
There are many more, I think if you really take time to get to know your horse they are amazing and very intelligent creatures that I think many people don't give them credit for, it's their way of communicating with us stupid humans!

my very quirky old mare doesn't like you to put the bit in her mouth in the traditional way. She likes you to just hold the bit out, she then moves over and picks it up. It never fails! I had to run her up for the vet and decided to put her bridle on to do it. So I'm standing there holding out the bit and she moves over and picks it up, the vet asked how did you train her to do that? Had to admit she trained me

She also rotates her head up and to the right when she is excited and hides from people she doesn't know by standing with her head on the corner. Is terrified of lorries but will load herself if she's loose and there is a box with the ramp down

She poops in one place only in the stable and would never ever dream of disturbing it or lying in it. Her rugs are always spotless, she's such a lady. And as for mud and puddles, she can't bear them and will stand marooned on a dry patch of ground for hours rather than get her feet wet.

If she doesn't like someone she keeps her head averted and won't look at them no matter what they do. If she does like them she swings her head once away from them and then turns and looks at them

So, so many funny little ways, I won't go on but you can read her like a book!

If it's cold he puts his head against my chest to stop me taking his rug off.

I have to keep his water bucket away from him while I'm there, otherwise he takes a mouthful of water then gobs it all over me.

When I got to clean under his tail he lets out a silent but violent fart...
