So brought Castle cross-country schooling today (won't go on about it) he went so well for me, so chuffed with him, no steering issues at all! And I said I'd take a chance with trying him with no martingale or dutch gag on the middle ring, and use a plain eggbutt instead, no other gizmo's or gadgets (apart from the flash), and he can definitely do everything in an eggbutt now, so chuffed as he wasn't strong on me either! Sorry about this pointless post but I'm really pleased with todays results!

Wow thats brill! I'm thinking I might take some gadgets of Badger (i am in similar to you at the mo) but he's a bit of a big beastie so i'd be worried I wouldn't have any control at all!

Was castle strong before - I mean, do you think the gadgets made him worse or you just don't need them anymore?

Well out hunting he used to be quite strong to hold back, but towards the end of the season he learnt his manners

I also had the dutch gag on the middle ring for reassurance and that extra control, and he had a martingale when I bought him so I always jumped or hunted in one. He feels a lot lighter with just the snaffle, and definitely goes better in one, and the martingale was just plain unneccesary. Gadgets might not have made him worse, but he does feel like a much easier ride and just didn't need them

I'd just experiment without Badgers gadgets and see how things go, at least you know what she's like without them
