quite or busy yards?

I bought my horse a few months ago from a showjumping yard has a school, unlimited hay good facilities and friends there that can help out so my mum dont have to take me there. I
could go back there for £49 or stay at another quite yard without school just a field with only few people for £30 whats people opinion on yards?
 
Hugely personal.

1. Transport - which is easier to get to
2. Company - do you want or avoid
3. What you want to do - do you need a school/happy hacker
4. Facilities - coffee room, running water, lights etc

I'm quite happy off the yard on acres of grazing with no facilities and no people around... I know plenty it would drive insane though...
 
There's pro and cons to both, you need to weigh up whats most important to you and go from there. I'm on a lovely quiet yard, 5 mins from home, nice people, well-run but...there's no school. For me, its a compromise I'm prepared to accept as everything else is great and we can ride in the fields when its dry enough. We're in Wales tho so its often NOT dry enough.....! ;)
 
Very personal choice...

I've been on busy yards and enjoyed it, but I now rent my own little yard and I absolutely love it! However I have had lots of people asking me if I find it lonely, which I don't!
 
This is a personal decision & one that needs to be taken with full consultation with your mum. When all said & done I suspect that she will be the one that will be paying the bills. There is a difference of nearly £1000 per year (£19 per week) between these yards You need to work out the costs of keeping your horse at each of the yards, money is an important matter specially in these hard times. You also need to compare the facilities that you have at each yard & just because one yard has loads of facilities compared to the other does not mean that it's the one for you. All these facilities are being paid for by the liveries & you need to decide if you need them or will actually use them? Depending on your ability & knowledge you may find that a larger yard with friends may be better for you as there are people there that can advise or help you with any problems you have. This is not to say that at a smaller yard there won't be people that can assist you if you need it.

Unlimited hay/haylage may seem great but at my yard we buy large bale haylage between the 5 horses that are there & my 2 horses eat as much as they want & it doesn't cost that much..honest, so it's not always the massive saving that some think it is.

Quiet with few people! I've had to many experiences on busy yards with lots of girls and my tack seems to just walk out of the tack room and never return! Thankfully I caught my senses and moved. Spend much more time with my horse rather than chin wagging with the people in the tack room!
 
Quiet yard over a busy yard any day!

I am so anti social and I have been on several different yards. I now keep mine with my two friends and there horses and its perfect! Everyone gets on and most of the time I have the place to myself :)

But I do know some people are diff so it's got to be what you prefer!
 
I would always have said quiet, until I moved to my current yard where 9/10 times I'm the only one around. I don't like working my horse when nobody's around, and anti-social as I am, even I fancy a bit of conversation sometimes. I would much rather be on a busier yard, providing it was busy with the right sort of people - I have visited one place that was constantly full of kids running around, which I couldn't deal with. I think it depends on what you prefer, and how confident you are - I prefer not to be left completely alone when I'm working my big stroppy 3 year old.
 
No way could I cope with no school , I could not handle no indoor so the thought of a field horrifies me.

Facilities are my number one priority
 
I agree that it's a personal choice/preference.

Having been on both, I have to say, I prefer a smaller yard - I've found that the bigger the yard, the poorer the service as your horse is just another livery.

That said, I'm lucky to be at a small yard with a good arena - many of the smaller yards around here have rubbish facilities so I would never rule out a big yard in future but it would have to have an awful lot going for it!!
