For those that are aware I am searching for a new horse, on loan first with possible view to buy, so I went and viewed a 16.3hh 5 yr old geld this afternoon that sounded great to begin with, I took my YO with me she is very experienced and competes her own.

Anyway, turn up at the yard and we are greeted great....saw horse he looked really nice in a make shift stable/barn thing..filthy dirty...but I kinda looked past that...maybe was just a temp place they went...(it was)....asked lots of usual questions....they led him out to the (main yard)...and groomed him he was using someone else's tack as apparently he had outgrown his so on went the saddle and bridle he stood really well, but he just wasn't happy at all you just knew I was feeling over his back and that showed up some discomfort so anyway my YO also had a look over him etc and wasn't too happy...whilst in main yard by his usual stable there was a bucket of feed..my YO asked if that was his feed, owner said no it was his braekfast with his bute but he didn't touch it....why give a horse bute if you knew nothing was wrong with him???
He was led down to the school where he was lunged on both reins...well it was apparent straight away he was dog lame on both reins they seemed quite shocked at this....I was like :0

He wasn't tracking up correctly or working through his hocks more so his left hind, he is not getting any turnout other than 5-10mins in the school now for a young big horse like him he needs surely to be out as much as possible, and the state of the place let alone the beds my god they hadn't been mucked out I would say in about a week it was filth I felt sorry for the poor guy there were rat droppings all over the yard too....

His owner wouldn't touch him or really have much to do with him, it was another lady that had been doing some work with him that did all the talking pretty much and showing him off...

I have come away quite disheartened as I am looking for a decent horse but when people just flately lie I mean seriously!!

Anyway, so the search continues YO said to have a break from looking as they will be coming up in next month or so and not to rush...considering she is holding me my stable and not being paid...well how nice is that!!

Sorry....but you may all now have a hot choc and choc digestive,....mmm :D

My step-daughter went to see a horse last year and (being very vocal....like me....!) informed the seller that the horse was lame, underweight and certainly didnt look like the horse in the picture! Needless to say, when she looked online later that day, the advert had gone....how odd! I also saw the pictures she had taken, and threatened the woman with the ILPH! I'm not suprised, the poor thing looked terrible! :(

Some people have no morals i'm afraid....

Chin up!

:D

Poor boy :(

I was always told to buy before April bank holiday as the prices seem to shoot up after it :) I'm sure you will find one that is right for you. I'm the type of person that has love at first sight so I'm no good!

We had someone view one of the horses on our yard today. I was horrified as I drove past and the poor horse was being cantered on the main road whilst the rider had no hat or appropriate shoes. The horse hadn't been ridden for 2 years (before I rode him a month ago) and has a history of lameness; I still can't get over it :(

Oh how terrible, sounds like an awful day, really feel for you. Hugs ....

Hang in there the right horse will turn up when you least expect it .... maybe i need to listen to my own advice lol :D

As a matter of interest and if you don't mind me asking on a public forum, how much were they asking for him and what money bracket are you looking in for an eventer?

I am not looking to buying straight away - loan 1st...and not after an eventer i'm afraid.

I'm after a horse that will make a lovely show/working hunter and hunter trials etc hacking schooling the usual really.

The horse was in good weight order nothing wrong there, although could do with more and just worked to bring muscle tone up but with him being lame, and no t/o at all... :(

She did say that he was uneven...that to me is he is unbalanced...not lame!!!

onwards and upwards aye lol....

generally i have found that the bigger animals 16hh + dont get cheaper during winter as if they are capable they are used for the hunting season. It tends to be the little ponies more so whose prices increase in the spring - as parents buy for the kids.

People are very dishonest indeed! hope you didnt have to travel too far!

I am lucky it was quite close so not too bad of a travel really, although I will struggle to find one, as per the other threads that are about people are very reluctant to allow their horse's to go to a new home whilst on loan, yet I AM one of the decent people around who is waiting to give a horse such a happy loving genuine home...still......never mind

I just wish people would be honest
