umm, depends which mouthpiece it is tbh!

Well yes it does, but the ringside critic is going to sneer at me just from what they can see on the outside of the horses mouth.

Thats a myler combination bit isn't it. I've stopped thinking of bits with severity seeing as it all depends on mouth conformation. I mean a fat, jointed snaffle on a fleshy tounge is much more sevear then a thin mullen mouth straight bar anything!

That bit, i'd say not as sevear as looks as pressure is distributed across mouth, nose and chin. plus mouthpiece is probably more shaped. Very hard to tell tho

Only one choice?
Not that strong. Its a nice bit would prefer to use that than anything else if I needed more that a snaffle.

Nope - that is Spot's bit! This is a Spot reject. Boss would have eaten this one for breakfast.

It's a triple barrel mullen mouth snaffle.

It is actually milder than a 3 ring gag on the top big ring, even with the reins on the bottom ring. It is just slightly stronger than a snaffle.

A perfect example of how something looks strong but in actual fact is very well designed and works on the horse in a different way and is actually a very mild bit.

DD, that is Satan's Bit! You can't post that picture on HHO

Not a very strong bit probably, even though I've only seen her once I wouldn't think that there was a strong mouthpiece in there as I doubt Dolly would be too fond about that

It's a nice bit - distributes the pressure and a good alternative to increasing the severity of the mouthpiece.

Boss - yours has one less ring (well the one I have does, unless you also have the one in DD's pic

I borrowed Boss's bit for the coloured cob I ride, she is unruly in her kimblewick because she hates the Cambridge mouthpiece, she's stoppable in a single joint pelham but she still dislikes it - but this bit she LOVES. She is so much softer in it and much easier to hold, which I am pretty convinced is because she has a sensitive mouth and the combi bits disperse the pressure over the nose too which Kit likes.
So in answer to the question, as always, it depends very much on the horse's likes and dislikes, and of course the rider's hands! (Total cop-out of doing the poll, sorry!

This is the short-shank one Boss has with the same mouthpiece:

Yes, that's the mouthpiece.

She really likes it. When I got her she was in a 3 ring and I couldn't touch the reins - in this I can take a contact and have steering.

The standing martingale helps with the non stop leaping. She probably looks like she doesn't need it, but I think it is a mental thing because she behaves with it on, but is a madam without it.

This is her in a 3 ring

Much happier in the Myler - I think I have her Standing Martingale looser than they did as well. But I would never have tried the Myler on her if it hadn't been sat in our tackroom

Myler combination, my mare used to be in one and she was really really strong in it. My one used poll pressure and she fought it the whole time. The leather 'nose band' also have her a lump on her nose. She is now in a french link snaffle and is a lot better, still a little strong at times but nowhere near as bad as she was.

Some bits work on some horses and not on others, its horses for courses as they say!!

I ride JM in the shortshank version..assuming this has the same mouthpiece??

it is a "nice" bit for him as he goes really well in a german hackamore but i cant be arsed to try the hackamore with a snaffle TBH...

It is, IMO a nice bit to use....giving the best of both worlds without the tug tug...

NOT all horses/ponies like them tho...
