In a statement released to H&H, the Stones write: “As part of the normal daily routine, Elektron was put on the horse-walker before being worked. Somehow he got his head stuck in the gap between the two pusher partitions, and his neck wedged in the tiny gap between the partitions and the outside cage wall.
“By chance, our vet was already at the yard doing other routine work, but was unable to save him, and Elektron died due to a fracture of the cervical vertebrae.
“The team here is devastated, and we are making this statement to warn others of this highly unlikely, but still real, risk.”

Dreadful news. Horses on walkers need to be supervised at all times. Personally I hate the things, as find them soul destroying, but can understand, just, why they are used by those with numerous animals needing exercise.

RIP Elektron.

This is one reason why I am having mine adapted so the fences on either side are shoulder height. RIP poor boy xxx
Just to add I don't think they are soul destroying when used sparingly, TB loves trundling round in the walker, is a box walker anyway so I suppose he finds it comforting.

I am with you - I hate the things and to be honest I actually think it's lazy to put a horse on one, I do not see the benefit at all. Plus, a friend of mine's horse ripped it's leg open on one many years back at college when the staff put her on the walker without actually finding out first whether the horse had been on one before. That was an expensive lesson for them!

I know horses can have accidents at any given time but this is so sad that it happened on preventable circumstances :(
