We have a major rabbit problem! They are burrowing all over our fields and breeding at an alarming rate!

How do you get rid of your pest problems? DIY or do you get a company in, if so how much do they charge? Any suggestions on how we can get rid of them before there is an accident?

Thanks!

I have had a problem with the ickle bunny wunnies for a couple of years now. We have a few people who come in and ferret or shoot them to keep the numbers down. They keep the rabbits so we don't pay.
I check the fields regularly and put something nasty smelling down the holes before filling them in. Stops them digging for a while.

We are overrun by bunnies!

YO is harri crishna so wont kill them, and the cat can only get so many :p They are so brave they play next to foxes .. its like a all you can eat buffet for them!

But we get it so bad because theyve realized that we have a nearly blind pony who cant see them hiding underneath her and between her legs and the foxes wont go near :p

Clever bunnies :D

Not much help but I've got loads of bunnies eating my grass too. They just carry on eating when I walk past them poo picking, maybe I should catch some and sell them as pets! He he.

Ferreting is the best way to really cut the number back. I used to shoot them for a few folk locally using an air rifle, as they can be silenced and don't alarm the horses.

Have a look on the BASC web site and find your regional contacts, they will be able to put you in touch with members who ferret and who will be only too pleased to relieve you of your troublesome bunnies.

As soon as I see a new rabbit hole I surround it with electric fence posts so that the horses can not put a foot down it.

Once winter comes the rabbits will go underground and that is were they sadly catch Mixy which kill them off - which is not a pleasant death.

Possibly shooting or ferreting is more humane.

I have the same problem ! I bought a rabbit trap as I was fed up of asking my brother to shoot them ! its now the laugh of the family as I haven't caught one yet ! but I will I will probe it works but it might be in mid winter when there is nothing else to eat ! I haven't seen as many recently so I suspect fox & I have seen a local cat carrying a little one down the road. Mixy also sorts them out but not nice death for the poor things.

Hello thought I might be of help with the amount of rabbits you have, we are in south cumbria and offer a free local rabbit control service. provided your not over 20 miles away then we just as for a donation to the fuel cost. we use ferrets for our rabbit control helping control a few farms, golf courses and horse place as well as our own, using ferrets means we can move quickly and quietly not disturbing any livestock or the land. We can't promise that we will get all the rabbits but will make a big impact. I live on a farm so am completely aware of the countryside code. we use all the rabbits we catch for our dogs, ferrets and our selves. if we can help anyone out we will as we understand what damage rabbits can do. hope this helps you guys :)
