I have brought a race horse and trying to trace her history as she is now a 8 year old. She only raced 3 times as a 4 year old and obviosley (sp) failed!!
Now I was wondering what the reasons why she wouldnt have raced as a 2 or 3 year old? maybe late grower or had trouble with training??
Her sire and dam were both race horses, so its what she was breed for.
Any ideas??

Was she flat or jump - flat normally race as 2 year olds but jump horses normally start at 3/4 so it does depend on what she was bred for

My ex racer did not race till he was 4.5. He was bought by a friend from Ascot sales as she really liked the look of him. She trained him for dressage and he qualified fr the regionals at Novice level. But then she decided to try him as a hurdler. He raced for 2 years and I bought him last year as a 7 year old. He is fantastic. My friend now owns a TB stud and insists all her youngsters are broken correctly to saddle, ie dressage trained before race trained so that they have a decent life after racing.

On your passport should see all her owners. give them a call and ask them they should be able to tell you.

Mine was in training at 2 but got sore shins. They then tried again after a years rest and he didnt train well. They eventually raced him at 4 and he ran 6 times, proving utterly useless.

Mine raced 4 times I contacted previous owners but nobody ever got back to me.I also contacted wetherbys trying to register him in my name but again no reply. The vet said as long as I have his passport there should be no problem .I found out he was sold for 1/4 of a million as a 2 year old his grandad won several derbys terrific pedigree but hes had so many problems with his legs Im not surprised he never won anything .He is now recovering from surgery for spavins . Really interesting reading about them and the history.

Some are just late developers, some a bit 'backward', go through growth spurts, get sore shins, injuries etc there can be many reasons why she didn't get to the track at 2 and 3. I'm suprised the owners persevered to get her to the track at 4 years old, so perhaps they could give you more info, it won't hurt to try finding them and ask! Or try the trainer.
What is her breeding?

Her racing name is Magic Spin and already found all the details of the 3 races she did race in and seen 1 video!! very sweet and clever how they have them all logged!
It seems she has pretty good breeding but she is actually lame, which is why i'm trying to track down more on her history. Maybe she had problems efore she even raced...

(Cellie was talking to you about it another post i made about her lameness)

Try contacting the trainer, I had a quick search and he's got a website.

Trainer

He's not had any races since 2006 so don't know if the email would work or not, maybe try giving them a call? Worth a try i guess.

I am lucky and am still in contact with Ronnies owner from racing, so know his history.

Ronnie was only raced as a 4year old (I'm sure he was), he started on flat then moved onto jumps.

Hope that helps

Have you made any progress with lameness issues.Ive just been given the all clear for walking for a month and its snowing so hard we have hardly got out.
I dont think you will be able to find out if she had any issues with lameness during her racing days unless you are lucky enough to speak to the trainer.

Are you serious!! You have a daughter of Myth To Reality? The dam of Divine Proportions and Whipper? WOW!! How on earth did you wangle that one and WHY are riding her? If she were mine I'd be putting her to the best, most commercial flat bred TB sire I could afford and then selling her. Sorry if that sounds very materialistic, I'm just a bit awed that a filly from this family is not in a broodmare herd.

This is one of the reasons I like our (works) stallion so much - he carries NO Northern Dancer OR Mr Prospector! And he's Derby winner - always helps

QR.
This mare was obviously worth persevering with until 4 as she is so well bred. She showed plenty of ability in her three runs so a major problem must have stopped her training on.
If you ever wish to sell, I will buy.

RF Johnson Houghton does not tain any more, you would need to contact his daughter Eve who took over the license.

Wow - I've just bought a racehorse straight out of training and having seen At the Races thing have just watched him jump in three races.

Thanks for that.
