I am entering racehorse to riding horse class at weekend, what is the correct way to turnout myself and my horse eg. correct tack etc. thankyou.

I went in one just as i would in a SJ class! Didn't bother plaiting, but maybe thats why the judge took a dis-likeing to me and pony?

lol

Sorry not much help... most people seem to plait their horses. Boots and and martingales etc. are allowed. (i did the to competition horse and they were allowed in that)

Would give the organisers a ring - see what the rules are or what the judge will be looking for. Good luck Dasiychain! My riding pal has an ex-racer and is doing brilliantly with him in his new career as dressage and showjumper. Also he has fallen in love with my fat (actually, its all muscle), one eyed, 20yr old Section D gelding and talk about the Odd Couple!!!!!! Hope you knock 'em dead xxxx

Ahh thanks sunnymum for your kind words!! Yes my boy is doing really well dressage and eventing, we are off to aston le walls in next couple of weeks. xx

There is nothing worse than seeing a competitor in a showing class dressed as if he/she has come straight from the show-jumping ring! Judges just will not look at you if you are not turned out correctly.

Mane and tail should always be plaited ( or pull tail).

Tack must be spotless

Horse must be sound and in good condition

Correct showing clothes should be worn, and

A short accurate show should catch the Judges eye.

Best of luck.

You can wear tweed with fawn jods and plain browband, but a navy jacket, cream breeches and coloured browband is more the norm. Don't use a double bridle unless your horse is very used to it and doesn't throw his head about whilst being ridden in it. A plain snaffle is OK, no martingale or flash, and only a brown numnah, barely visible, if a numnah is really necessary.

I have worn tweed jacket, beige jods, navy hat and showing cane, long boots, horse was in a double bridle with velvet browband and either a gp or dressage/show saddle is acceptable, however, avoid a numnah if you can.

If in doubt ask in the ex racers forum, they'll be more than happy to help with advice etc.

Good luck.

If you only have tweed and black, go for tweed - black is never correct for ladies in the show ring (though can look really smart for dressage). If you have the choice of navy or tweed, if your horse is a riding horse type, wear tweed, and if a hack type, wear navy. There's a fine line between the two types though! Dun4 is spot on.

The ex-racers forum is really helpful if you're looking for advice/moral support from like minded people.

Thankyou everyone, will go for more plain look i think as he is quite a chunky chap, 16.2hh with very slight roman profile, and plenty of bone, he used to point to point.

Question!!! You said "I have worn, hacking jacket, etc etc" Your other post refers to taking BUd to his third show, Blaston this year, and you did Blaston last year and went to sheepgate - So when did you participate in an ex racers class?
