Could anyone advise me whether my ex racehorse would be penalised in showing competitions because he has been fired. I think this is a fairly common practice on racing yards. Any info would be appreciated.
A clean limbed horse would be placed over him if it came to the crunch, however if he has good confo and gives a nice ride he could do pretty well. Cover up any white hairs with make up.
I hope you have lots of fun showing your ex-racer. I do just riding club level with mine and it took a couple shows to understand that we weren't off down to the start in the canter go round!
But now he knows what's going on he loves it and we've been lucky enough to win a couple of local classes this summer, which each came with a lovely cup so I'm so proud of him. He was also pin fired at some point and it has never been commented on, rather as already said, his manners and individual show have been praised which is what judges are looking for.
