I've got an unused, still in the bag RS ProVent, still being sold by RS for nearly £300 and current, that I can let you have for a £100 donation to Riding for the Disabled. It's long so you'd need to be at least 5ft 8. Let me know if you need the other measurements.

BPs need to be replaced every 4 - 5 years, as the foam hardens and deteriorates. So it may not be a good idea to buy or to wear an old one. I have to buy a new one soon.

Let’s be honest, nobody replaces their BPs after 5 years. I don’t even wear one enough to justify that. I wear one for xc so maybe 20x a year.

I do. It is this sort of post that used to get H&H Forum a bad name. Some of us never had to chance to ride much when young. I started lessons at 61 and bought a bp a year later, as soon as I started to hack. I wont hack without a bp and I replace mine every 4 years.

And that’s your choice. I am glad they are free choice for the majority of activities. My worst injuries have been wearing BPs and still have no feeling in part of my back 3 years later as the BP dug in and seriously bruised it on the edge. Hats, I make more effort about.

It is true that safety equipment can leave bruises when it impacts on the body during or landing in a fall. It happens with safety harnesses when climbing too.
But the bruising casused by the edge of a bp is likely to be much less that the injury that woud have occurred without a bp.
