This is perhaps a stupid question and one I have absolutely no intention of doing. Just musing.

If someone owns a tb, on a wetherbys passport. Said horse has never been raced, is not under a trainer. It's just a tb on the right type of passport.

What's to stop, a random person, getting their tb fit enough, employing a random jockey and then just entering it in a race?

Of course they would need to train said horse to use a starting gate, but other than that? Galloping with other horses comes pretty naturally doesn't it....?

I’m no expert but it’s not that easy and I believe most rehomed racehorses come with a ‘no racing disclosure’ agreement.

Nothing to stop anyone, except all the licenses and registrations to be a racehorse trainer and the vast amount of money needed to enter and compete in races - it has been done before... plenty of horses owned by syndicates where they train a horse & enter it in races, you just have to have all the right paperwork!

The horse is usually the least of your worries - but there is alot more to it 'than just galloping', its like cycling - its a massive game of chess and strategy aswell as speed and agility!

I don’t know the ins and outs.
You could enter a point to point or become a permit holder. Permit holders can train and enter their own horses (but no one elses) or you could send said horse to a trainer to finish and enter.

You can train and run it yourself to be a point to pointer with minimal difficulties, especially in Hunt Member Races.

But to run under rules on the track as either a flat horse or a national hunt horse you would need a permits licence or a full training licence and with them comes lots of cost, restrictions, exams (proof that you have a clue and aren't going to kill someone) etc.

They are tracks that run races not under jockey club rules. As far as I know they are only in the Welsh and Scottish Borders but there could be others.
Does this still exist?
Someone was telling me only recently about their flapping days! Sounded hilarious, terrifying, dangerous and completely bonkers all at the same time.
The guy in question is a great story teller though ?

Yes, I’m not sure it fits your definition though!

Reminds me of my youth when there were pony races held locally through the pony club. Friends entered but my pony didn't do fast.
Just looked and found out this is still a popular thing - I didn't realise

I saw the title of this and had visions of a fluffy cob in the starting gate with all the TBs ????
Mind you, if you waved a bucket of feed at the other end of the track.........???

If you cross that cob with a tb, cross the offspring with a tb, that offspring with a tb and so on so forth you will eventually get something that is 7/8th tb and eligible to race under rules. Hence those Coloured things a few years ago. Totally and utterly useless racehorses but there because they had been crossed enough times to make them eligible.
