Most people on my yard ask their horse to do a 1-2 hour shift 5 days a week (if that) in return for them being tucked up in a very comfy bed, hanging out with their mates everyday, being pampered and loved and generally being treated like royalty!

what welfare issues? Are the horses starved, beaten, forced over the jumps with electric cattle prods...?



I'd a friend many years ago who didn't watch the National "because it's cruel", I asked her to explain how/why it was cruel and she said "because they whip the horses to death"

I watch the National that year and was able to inform her that no horses had died, so she watched the replay later on that night and was unable to see any jockey whipping his horse to death at any point during the race. She was also quite surprised that I wasn't clapping my hands and laughing in delight when a horse fell, but concerned that they got back up and carried on running riderless...

(She didn't, and still doesn't, know anything about horses)

now come on, everyone goes on about racing should be banned but seriously think about it if they did ban it, which they wont then it wont just be one or 2 that will die thousands would be slaughtered or abandoned. be very careful what you wish for let alone the amount of jobs lost peoples pets would be pts or abandoned most dont realise how much the racing industry affects other industries people claim to be for animal rights but make there life a hell of a lot worse like the anti hunt setting traps for the horses to fall in and several broke there legs and was shot but hay the fox got away right thats what matters makes me so angry taring all with the same brush there is good and bad in every sport more regulations and maybe a limit on breeding yes could be possible but there is a hell of a lot worse than racing if you all put all this into a truely cruel activity would make a massive difference long distance transport to slaughter ect
