Just watched the first I think it was from Southwell. Snowing. I wanted to put sheets on the horses waiting at the start to keep them warm. Number 1 was so cute - I’d take him/ her home.

They will have been well wrapped up before hand and will be well rugged up after.

I'm not one for watching much racing but whist I am taking a break from RoR stuff I am watching Big Doug's race from Sandown again from the other day 😂

I think the likes of Venetia Williams leaving their backs on needs applauding. And Willie Mullins I think. I know Alice is traumatised by the sight of them in the paddock but it’s got to be better for those big muscle groups.
The problem being day to day they take so much longer to dry off and end up getting cold.
They sweat enough daily in that level of work to actually need being fully clipped imo
*maybe that’s just because it used to be a lot easier for me 😳!!

I've asked a number of horse physios about a high blanket clip - all were very much in favour for just that reason, keeping the big muscles warm.
With modern technical-fabric turnout rugs, cooler rugs and rug liners it is pretty easy to dry off the horse (even native ponies ;)) unless the coat is fully roughed-off, when surely they would be unlikely to be working that hard anyway.
