My daughter is doing work experiance with school at the end of the year but they have to chose their placements before the end of march. She has decided she would love to go to a racing yard for the week.
I've got no objecions as I think it will be a great experiance and she'll learn loads but i'm no expert in this industry!
So does anyone know of any Racing Yards in berkshire? The closer to Wokingham the better, we could probably go to surrounding counties but sensibly no further then 45 minutes and it would mean over 3 hours of travelling per day for me!!
Also if anyone has any experiance of working at a racing yard it would be great to hear!

Thanks :)

I work in racing and have done for the past 8 years. I can honestly say that it is a fantastic job, more of a paid hobby to be honest BUT if you can avoid it I wouldn't really plan your life on a career in racing unless you want to be a jockey and a damned good one at that. It's a brilliant experience, by all means go for it as a gap year but it really is a way of life, it's not a living.

In racing you will never meet a nicer bunch of people. You have to be able to take stick but to get on in racing you need to be able to give as good as you get. It's tough if you let it be, but it truly is one of the best things I have ever done in my life. I have learnt so much, seen so many things and have generally got so much further than I ever planned. I now want out of racing. I need to find a proper job that provides a living and it's going to be hard as I really do love my job. If it paid better then I would never leave.

Your daughter will have an absolute ball for the week! But please try to make sure she keeps her options open.
