I'm getting really into racing - the proper jumping stuff, flat leaves me cold! Is the Racing Post a good buy? What publications would you recommend? I find it much more interesting if I know a bit of background.

Not a huge Racing post fan. The irish field is excellent - coverage from all the tracks around the world, breeding, bloodlines etc. Can be deliverd to the UK too.
Thoroughbred Daily News is available online - excellent views by Bill Oppenheim on yearling sale, breeding news, speed ratings etc. Worth a read - though obviously a bit more focused on the US scene.
Bloodhorse is a really good US publication too as is the Thoroughbred times - but they are obviously more flat racing inclined.

So really, Irish Field would be my number one, Racing Post is a bit bland IMO but good for the day's racing.

welcome to the club!! U've joined at a great time, whatever your doing on boxing day everything has to stop for the king george ok! You have good taste, racing is wicked especially NH x

This sounds very pompous but I actually think betting detracts from the beauty and courage of the horses. Sorry, that sounds so stuck up!

Oh I agree with this entirely! I jumped to my feet when he won and then afterwards they reminded us that he ran against the likes of Moscow Flyer, made me realise how long he'd been around, such a great win, MM will be back but it was nice for him to get one on the board. The fact that we see them year after year makes you feel involved somehow, it rarely happens in flat racing but when it does the feeling is exactly the same.. Persian Punch?
