There is a full page artice in todays Daily Mail - 06 August 2007 about Ragwort and how dangerous it is to horses.

OMG - I didn't realise it was that dangerous to Humans. I'll make sure I wear gloves and a mask in future.

There's tonnes of it around us. All the grass verges and unused field are rife with it. There are 3 horses up the road and their paddocks are riddled with it. I spoke to the owners and they have spent 5 full days removing it by hand. This year I have seen more ragwort than any other year.

It is in lots of horse/pony paddocks if they don't control it how can they complain about road/train verges, come on charity begins at home, our farm fields are ragwort free as well grazed with sheep(until f&m and can't manage anything now)

The problem is you can clear and clear and clear your paddocks year after year, but if the highways agency and local council leave the verges next to your fields covered in the stuff and think they can just cut it when they feel like it - you'll never be able to stop your land getting re-infected with the damn stuff.

We've just had to pull 3 clumps for the first time in 3 years - we've had none on the farm our horses are on or next door ones - so where has it suddenly spring from?

Hmmm, windbourne seeds from all the crap on the verges perhaps?

Gingermare - this is just what I was thinking. Road verges seem packed with them at the moment- and nothing gets done. I am so happy that our fields are quite far away from the roads :-(
