I've never seen them do it before. The heavens opened and they trotted over from the other end of the field and into the shelter. I've seen them do it before when the flies are bothering them, but never before in the rain. Usually, it's tails the wind and lock down until it passes. Anyway, maybe they are learning...finally.

I saw similar last week, when we had the first proper downpour in over a month. My mare trotted under the trees, next door's gelding trotted to his shelter, a horse opposite did the same and two others bucked their way to theirs. My gelding, however, was much more concerned with the haylage I'd put out and didn't move a muscle. This morning I found both of mine in the shelter, with that 'please don't tack us up!' look. I ignored them, of course. ;)

My pure bred Arab has lived out since 6 months old. She is now 19. One drop of rain and she is galloping for the shelter. She is tough as old boots really just can't bear to get wet.

My two big horses run for shelter immediately the rain starts doesn't matter how heavy it is and then my three minis stand in all weathers with tails to the wind and grazing happily, putting the big horses to shame.:D
