I have a very fluffy section D. who was living out unrugged. a few weeks ago i found some rainscald on his back, mainly the saddle area. I tried numerous antifungal and antibacterial creams to treat it and also tried rugging to see if that helped but it didn't (i realize creams aren't really idea as they make a moist environment) i have now clipped the area where the rainscald is (lol poor pony now has a reverse hunter clip!) and rugged him but still no improvement. just seems to be spreading. have also today found some on his ears which he is a bit less tollerent with.
does anybody have any home remedies or recommend anything which works? i have read that washing with special shampoo can help but its really the wrong time of year for it.
any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! :)

well I have just had a foal recover from it, vet recommendation was to leave dry and not to wash but she did not have 'weepy' scabs. She was rugged with a breathable, lightweight rug and brushed daily with a plastic comb to loosen the lumpy bits.

Forgot to say I also had to put her in livery so that I had a stable so minimal exposure to the rain...............its a nightmare!!

Thanks for reply. its a real pain! none of the scabs have been weepy just very lumpy and white waxy stuff comes away with hair when i brush it. he had loads of dry skin under his coat when i clipped it so just hoping having some air to it will help.
