A couple of weeks ago, Amber had a lot of scurf on her back. Its since gone a bit scabby and sore, I wondered if it was rain scald, but she has not been out in any rain recently. Is there anything else it couls be?

The only thing I can think of what caused it was when she got abit sweaty under her rug one day.

I have been hibbiscrubing it every other day to get the scurfy bits off.

Is there anything else I could be doing?

Many thanks.

Our horse that has sweetitch got like this and I think it is a dermatitis we washed it in a anti bact./anti fungal shampoo then put on a cream we got from Gatcombe think it is BP 6 cream or something like that[ it was invented for koi carp] This cream has been great and the hair is growing back well. We also had a bit of mud fever and this cleared it up

Does sound as if it could be rainscald Kuki. When I first bought my boy off the riding school, he had it under his saddle *scowls madly* which was just poor management and not washing the sweat off his back properly. It's called rainscald but is just a dermatitis associated with damp conditions that allow the bacteria to thrive and multiply...doesn't have to be rain. You need to pick the scabs off before you wash with Hibiscrub coz the bacteria "hide" under the scabs. If it's slow to clear, it's safe to mix a teeny bit of diluted Hibiscrub and sort of scrub it deep into his coat/skin and just leave it to dry. Hope it clears soon x

it sounds like dermatitis. one of my horses got it very badly when out on loan, from a saddlecloth which hadn't been rinsed properly... he sweated, reacted to the soap, and ended up with a big rectangle of bare skin... even the tail-off points on the back corners where the sweat had run down went absolutely bare.

i'd have a quick chat with your vet to see if s/he recommends any creams or whatever, tbh.
