Can anyone recommend good treatments for rainscald? (on my mares neck)

Previously bought some cream off the vet for it but it was about £35 a pot:eek: so seeing if there are any cheaper alternatives

Aware of washing with hibiscrub, someone suggested using diluted Listerine mouthwash as an antibacterial, but I thought this would perhaps be very drying on her skin?

Smother and massage it with something like Sudacrem or zinc & castor oil cream which will help soften the scabs and then when they're ready you'll be able to roll them off (but don't pick at them!).

My vet told me to get some iodine spray on my mare who had rain scald... seemed to help and was nice and cheap.

I bought a little pony who ha a lot of dry scabs on her back on a huge area. As above, I put on a load of udder cream and just left it. A week later I was able to start brushing and getting scabs off. Its important to do this. You don't need to reapply the cream loads as it stays in the skin. I also read that athletes foot treatment can be good as well. Mine was living out and due to bad weather had her little lightweight on. 6 weeks later we scabs are almost all gone :)

I find udder cream really good for lots of minor skin conditions, mine has tea tree oil in as well, Sudocream is the human version of udder cream and available in all supermarkets/ chemists so handy to pick up if you're not visiting an agricultural shop.
