Hello

After noticing my horse was a bit bald in places and then noticing some scabs on her back I have taken some photos and my vet has advised me that it is rain scald they have sold me some sweet itch liquid but after reading up about it on google I'm not to sure if it is a waste of money?

I understand I'm to shampoo the area leave for 10 min then try and get off the clumps of hardened hair then fully dry.
But then what is the best thing to apply?
I have read posts that say lisereine mouth wash (not sure how its spelt) mixed with conditioner and baby oil (equal parts) ??

I'm always unsure about using human stuff but I guess if its good enough for us!!

Thanks in advance

Have you heard of Equi-Oil?

Worked wonders on my mares mud fever and it also works with rain scald etc.

Google them and see what you think.

Hope you find something :)

My horse has rain scald on her legs, I out it down to not having clipped them this year and wearing boots in the field that were getting wet. I use tesco tea tree shampoo and them rinse with a diluted milton solution. Iif there are scabs present I put vasaline on when dry to help lift the scabs but once scabs are gone I just use the shampoo and milton.

Thank you I have tried to get most of it out but just wih the weather was Warner so I could give her a good bath and get to it all! X
