has anyone elses horses suffered badly from this over this winter period ? my boy has never had it before but he appears to have it now,his face in most places is now bold and he has scabs on his back he is also really itchy,bless him i feel so sorry for him he looks a bit worse for wear !!! trouble is he went patchy around his face in a matter of a couple of days,i can only think its becuase he has got hot,cant reach his itchy spots and is taking it out on his head !!!!!!!!!

My horse suffers with it if i do not have a full neck rug on him.

Best way to treat Rain Scald is by clipping the hair off to treat the skin.

I always use MABS Mud Fever Spray and it does the job within 4-6 days.

i think he has got it because ive rugged him,i think he has overheated which is daft as this has been the coldest winter in years !!!! strange horse !!!!!

My new loan pony has little scabs over his back, he isn't clipped and has a thick full neck rug on!!!

I only got him yesterday, so I have given him a good groom and changed his rug for a lighter one.

Its definately over heating ie moisture forming inside the rug from sweat.

you will have to keep him in then to keep it dry and clean otherwise it will get infected my girl has had it this year i treat with a was with hibi scrub dried well then applied neem oil it cleared up very quickly!
