Rainscald type scabs on legs.....

I have discovered what looks like a patch of rainscald on my horse's hind leg on the front of his cannon. He is a hunter and stabled 24/7 with occasional turnout. I picked the scabs off and they revealed new skin underneath. Has anyone else come accross this and is there a way to prevent it.... also, what's the best thing to put on the new skin......

if it his not infected or sore i would leave it well alone to prevent it use a barrier cream!

Yeah, sounds like mud fever. You can use an antibacterial cream on it which will kill off the bacteria. The cream also helps you to be able to roll off the scabs rather than painful picking.
