hope someone here can help!! bracken has got rainscald over her back :-( the only problem is that she will not stable at the moment as all the horses are turned out for the summer and when she was getting brought in for her tea she was stressing so am unwilling to attempt to stable her overnight on her own or even with her neighbour in she still stresses when her neighbour is in at the same time.she is currently being fed outside of the field of an evening. its too warm for her to be rugged up, i have tried this but she was sweating up and that is not helping. so does anyone have any hints or tips for treating rainscald in a field!! she does not appear to be bothered by it at all and will happily let you pick away at it.(she is a 21yr old TBx) any help greatly appreciated before i end up bald as well!!

My mare got it when we had the bad rain a few weeks ago. Hibiscrub on first. Dried it and then sudocrem. Got rid of it in no time and now back to normal with hair on it etc.

We took in a horse nearly completely bald and with bleeding sores through rainscald.
I used things given by vet, none of which worked. I bathed her in Equine health and herbal Tea tree shampoo and then aplied tea tree lotion. I think its called oz oil now. It worked brilliantly and with a good balanced diet she grew a healthy glossy coat.
I was advised not to rug as it can make the condition worse. She lived out whilst being treated. With her age she could be lacking something, hence the rain scald.
No idea about baldness in yourself other than don't worry

It soon clears up - on the horse that is
