Hi all, first horse, first rainsheet! Can anyone recommend a lightweight rainsheet for my boy. He is a cob who doesn't really need rugged up but due to lack of shelter in his field I would like to protect him from the worst of the weather on downpour days. Thanks in advance :)

For a cob - Amigo XL (if they are too chunky for the standard Amigos) or Shires (I looked at the Shires Highlander recently and was impressed with it, even though it's a 600d rug). I really rate the Bucas Smartex Rain rugs (available in normal neck and big neck versions) with the 'stay dry' lining although they are very expensive, they last and last.

I was going to recommend the Amigo XL but was beaten to it :) I still find the conventional Amigos good, although you may have to size up due to them having a non adjustable chest fitting and they aren't particularly generous in this department.

They are great rugs though and when looked after and re-proofed, will last for ages.

Having just parcelled up Kal's rugs to be cleaned, repaired and reproofed, I can vouch for the durability of both Shires and Amigo - he came with three Shires rugs which must now be at least 7 years old and are all still going strong. However, my boy is quite narrow - so I can't be much help wrt to fit . . . except to say that the Rhino he has fits the cob/shire cross mare at our yard and she is built like a brick outhouse (is as wide as she is tall/long).

Thanks everyone :) I will look at both the Shires and Amigos, he came with a Weatherbeeta but it's missing a surcingle, folds in at the neck, and the velco at the chest doesn't stick so that part turns in also, it doesn't seem to be a very good fit at all...
