I'm looking to get a L/W and a H/W turnout rug for my SF gelding so I was thinking of the Rambo Duo.

I just wondered how the rug fits when you remove the inner liner - is it just a matter of tightening the cross surcingles etc? Someone said to me that they couldn't see how it could fit well both with and without the inner liner, and they thought it would be baggy and not fit very well when it was removed. Any views please? Thanks!

Hi the inner liner (I have a 300g and 200g liner) velcros in two places on the neck and there are 2 clips to hold it in place at the back of the rug where the fillet string goes. So if I was taking a liner off I would unclip and unvelcro and then slide the liner from under the rug

but then Pidge is very good and is used to my slack ways

have never had any need to tighten or slacken the cross surcingles. For example he has had the outer on recently but tonight have put a 200g stable rug underneath it and haven't needed to adjust anything. Hope that helps?

It honestly didn't make a massive difference to when I took away the liner for Chloe anyway! It seems like it should though, but I didn't need to tighten anything. I love the Rambo Duo, tis fab!

You have to consider that the liners arent THAT thick. They have a decent weight in terms of the warmth but its not like trying to put a big thick stable rug underneath the outer. I certainly dont have to alter the surcingles on mine.

As someone else said, the liner attaches to the outer at the neck and the back via clips where the fillet string goes.

The only thing with them is the neck cover fastenings are completly useless and stop working after about a month. Unless they have changed them. We had to sew clips on them. Also somehow one of ours ended up complelty ripped in half in the middle of the field and we have electric fencing so it wasn't caugth on the fence. I personally wouldn't buy another one.

We bought 2 at the same time - maybe we were unlucky and they was a load of pikeys working in the factory that month.

Does your neck still do up?

Yep!

I even had a really good inspect of the whole rug about 6 weeks ago when it went for washing before we moved to Denmark, since they did rug repairs also... but couldnt find anything wrong at all.

Its now back on him and he's got the neck thing on also.

Is it the velcro straps that fasten the neck cover that went then?

Yep the velcro straps, they just don't do up - even if you clean them. Sewed some dog clips on instead.

We have three horses that live in them virtually 24/7 all year round. What fantastic value for money these rugs are. They are now on their third year, and wash like new. The fit is excellent - with or without a lining.

Next horse will have one - rather than kitting it out with lots of different ones.

I invested in one last November and think its absolutely fab - doesn't rub or move or leak and liners in or out it doesn't make a difference to the fit (although common sense would tell you it should - I had been thinking that before I brought one !) Have yet to have any probs at all with any of the fastenings including the neck ones. Took me ages to decide to get one cos of the expense but when you consider its a good name and how many months of the year you can use it - by being able to change the liners - its well worth the money and would recommend to anyone, have been very impressed with mine! ....and think neddy has been too as kept him warm and dry ...... and I was happy in the very bad weather knowing he was being kept snug and warm !

Also a HUGE benefit is being able to put all the bits in a domestic washing machine ! Washed all my liners regularly through the winter and they dry well quick! Haven't tried putting the outer or neck in yet - although it says you can haven't been brave enough yet cos am frightened it might ruin the waterproofing !!

Anyone else washed the outer themselves ?

Sorry to hijack but do they come up small or do you just buy the same size as other turnouts you've bought before? I've heard good things about these rugs too and have seen one for £170 so think this is a bargain.

I knew it was false economy to buy second hand L/W and H/W rugs - they are Weatherbeeta ones, and I personally hate the fit of them. Should have gone for Horsewear ones straight away, they always seem to fit v well on every horse I have had!

I'm another fan! I've had mine for 2 years now and its still fab. I have since purchased another thinner liner which makes it so versatile. The fit is great especially around the chest area. When the neck cover is on it does rub her mane slightly but otherwise a great fit. I don't find any difference with the fit with either of the liners or without them in.
I washed all the seperate bits in the washer and they've all come up fine - mind I use mine as a stable rug so its never been too hacky!

I use Horseware rugs for the stable and outdoors, I haven't a duo yet as my Rug Plus has been used for 7 years and still as good as the day I bought it.

I have a new horse who will need rugs of his own come this winter so I'll be seriously thinking about buying a duo for him

Weahterbeeta I found came up tight across the shoulders and masta rugs rip too easily.

I have a landsdown which has been okay but its a medium rug I use until the weather turns colder in the winter or for when it starts getting warmer come spring. It odes however rip easily.

Now I don't buy any rugs unless they are Horseware, Just tast week I bought two Horseware amigo summer turnout rugs and they are brilliant.
