I am having trouble with rug sizing for my cob cross and am hoping someone may be able to help.

I am after a 100g rug for her that I can attach a liner into and think it's now coming down to the very expensive Duo as I can't get a much cheaper Original to fit

Ok so.....

.....the Rambo Supreme 6'0 fits her beautifully
.....the Rambo Plus 6'0 is slightly too big but a reasonable fit
.....the Rambo Original 100g 6'0 is too tight across the chest
.....the Rambo Original 100g 6'3 is far too big

Has anyone who has a Duo also got other Rambos in use so they can give me a comparison size wise please.

Or is there another 100g Rambo that I'm not aware of, I know they do the California but I don't think it has the liner system & it's also quite difficult to track down. I only want to use it as a 100g rug, or a 200g by using a liner. I don't need a neck.

I've been going round in circles on this for ages & used a rainsheet with 100g liner this autumn but wasn't happy with it at all.

All my rugs are horseware, I've 2 duos, and a supreme, they're all 5'9, and all fit perfectly.
He has 2 rhino stables, one HW without a neck, and a MW with a neck, and they're different sizes, so if you can find someone with a duo to try it for size, it might be a good idea.

Hmm, I find the Rambo supremes to be pretty similar in fitting to the rambo duo (I too only have a duo to be used as a 100gm rug). My boy wears a 6' 3" in all his rambos - as well as the duo he has an old style rambo plus LW (the purple one), both a new model rambo plus HW and old style MW (old style is deffo less generous!), and a MW rambo supreme which is the best fit/rug, IMO.

Could you buy a LW/no fill supreme and use liners with it? The newer ones come with liner fittings, I believe.

If you are looking to sell your 6'3" original 100gm I *may* be interested ;)

Thanks guys, it sounds like the Duo & Supreme are about the same sizing which is great because the MW Supreme is the one that fits her best. It's on it's last legs now though so I thought I'd replace with a 100g that I can also use as a MW when needed.

ailhbeg I'm in the same situation with the rhino stable rugs - they definately aren't the same sizing as the rambo turnouts, it's so frustrating.

Puppy I have used a no fill rhino plus 100g liner this autumn and hated it, the fit of the rhino is all wrong on her and the rain poured down the neck & soaked the liner - useless! My 6'3 rugs belong to my other horse so I don't have one to sell although if this palava carries on I may have a horse to sell instead :D

Yes, the Rhinos aren't quite as good a quality/fit on many horses. They weren't deep enough for my old girl and I have made it a resolution to just buy rambos from now on.

I should also say, however much I LOVE rambos, I don't think that the duo is as well made/cut as the supreme which is why I'd recommend the supreme LW with liners over the duo ;)

I'd be interested to know how you rate the rambo 100gm? It seems hard to get a hold of, but I have been considering one...??

I love Rambos too, I stupidly bought Rhino rainsheets last year to save a bit of money and thought that seeing as they don't get much use the Rhinos would be fine. It was the wrong decision really as they don't fit that well and gape quite a bit around the necks.

I had the original Duo when it very first came out and I hated it. Luckily it was lent to me by Horseware due to a mis sizing on a rug I bought and it was a stop gap until they sorted it out. I have heard however that the new version is much, much better so I thought it worth a try.

I have the new model Rambo Original 100g with the velcro on the belly straps & new chest clips. It fits my TB like a dream with or without a liner and isn't too deep for her which the Supreme is. It's stood up well to some heavy use and being grabbed by another horse. I'd say it's not as generous in fit as the Supreme - much narrower and not as deep from wither to hem. I really can't get one to fit the chunkier cob cross so if you have a chunky type then it may not be the best fit.

Barnstormers have the Original 100g in stock quite reasonably priced, but it did cost me £12 to send one back when it wouldn't fit the cob!

OK, thanks, that's good to know. My chap (half TB) is quite narrow so it sounds like it would suit him. The WB who has pinched his duo, on the other hand, is quite a chunky monkey with a much bigger shoulder and girth :p

I think that you can get the Duo outer rug on it's own, I believe it's called the 'California' but I don't know how it compares in size with the Supreme.

Thanks Meowy Catmas, I can only find 2 Uk suppliers of the California and none have the size in stock. Also it doesn't have the liner system & I will want to attach a liner at times.

I may end up going with the Supreme no fill and using the liners.

It's no wonder I'm always broke

If it doesn't have to be a rambo then the amigo range now has a 100g turnout that is compatable with the liners. Its 1200 denier and just over £80 at barnstormers.

Google Amigo 100g turnout.
