Rambo duo vs premier equine trio complete?

Hiya :)

just wondering what everyone prefers or has experiences with...
i prefer the look of the P.E but it does look very deep and my mare has quite short legs so I think it might swamp her? How do they usually come up or which type do they fit best? Also you get more for your money with the P.E complete too.
also she lives out so I want something that will last in all weathers and one that doesn't rub!

My premier equine fits my mare like a glove, infact I have the trio and a 450 storm buster too :). She is quite broad chested though and it is still fairly deep on her, I am not sure how big they would come up on a narrow horse? :)

I know a lot of people have to go a size down in the PE rugs :)
 
The PE rugs are deep, and great for the bigger horse. Im not sure I'd buse either on a horse out 24/7 though.
 
:/ maybe not the p.e then as she hasn't got any shoulders and is quite a narrow 15.1 tb x connie, may be worth just getting separate rugs then instead of a duo, what would you recommend?
 
I've never seen Premier rugs but I have a lot of Rambo rugs. I have 2 Rambo Duos and I have to say I really don't like them at all. I am forever having to adjust them and pull them round. I much prefer the traditional Rambo originals. And nowadays I like the newer Bucas turnouts, funnily enough I prefer the cheaper ones to the expensive ones. There are about 7 or 8 horses who wear Bucas rugs in the winter here and the expensive ones just never seem to fit the TBs and WBs that well and slip constantly whereas the cheap ones fit perfectly and don't move so I'm a little bit of a convert. All horses on my farm live out 24/7 btw.
 
I'd go for PE - but try & see if you can borrow one to try for size, make sure its of the same PE type you want tho (Bustino, Buster & Trio are slightly different fits, not much but makes a difference)
Last winter, I had a MW 15hh mare wearing a 5 ft9 PE trio, 6ft Bustino 200, a 6ft Buster 70x and a 6ft Stormbuster 450.
Each & every one fitted very well :)
They all then fitted equally well on a 16.2 LW gelding after xmas.

The only ones of those to fit well on a 14.2 stocky (not fat at all) native is the Buster 70x & the Stormbuster 450.
The others are a bit too snug round the chest for her.
She usually wears a 6ft 3 in Masta when with her owner.

I had borrowed a friends spare Rambo - top of the range job, but tho I was a fan in their early years, these rugs are not for me these days....

Edited to add: Tho they are deep, have never had a problem with them being stood on etc - they do give a lot of protection & mine have had theirs on 24/7 :)

All mine have Duo's and fit really well. I have a few PE and must say Im not impressed. They get really heavy when wet and are quick deep.

Glad it's not just me, Duo liners are a pain!
 
I have a Rambo Duo for my TB which fits her really nicely. I've had it for about 8-9 years and it is still in really good condition and still waterproof. I don't have any problems with fit, she lived out 24/7 last winter and it stayed in place really well and the liners never got wet or dirty. I also have a couple of Amigo rugs that have the same loops so you can attack the liners to them too so it works well having a middle weight Amigo Hero with a 400g liner under for the middle of winter.

Apart from the Amigo only being a couple of years old so I cannot comment on whether it will last as long as the Duo but I would be tempted to buy the Amigo rugs and the Duo liners for a cheaper option.

Yep it's the liners. I don't know why they make them out of that shiny slippery material. And the heavy plastic clips aren't in the right place lol!! I could whinge about Rambo Duos all day but thankfully OP seems to have rejected them now so I don't need to :biggrin3:

Think I'm going to steer clear of both as I'm a bit worried the liners would constantly slip as she is only young and does like to run around quite abit!
Think I may just go for the rhino or rambo rugs and then layer instead! Although I like the look of the mark Todd heavy weight rug! To many to choose from!
 
I have a couple of coldies here and all I do when it's really freezing is put a stable rug underneath their turnouts. Works perfectly and doesn't slip like the Duo liners.

I got it when they first came out with an extra 100g liner. I don't use it without a liner as I can't get the surcingles short enough and I've shortened them as much as I can already (I nearly always need to get the sewing kit out and do this - so it's not a problem specific to this rug). So the 100g outer + the 100g liner gives a middleweight rug and the outer with the 300g liner gives a real heavyweight 400g rug.

I love it. :) It's still going strong (one clip replaced), is waterproof and has never rubbed CM, who is a lightweight type and quite narrow shouldered.

ETA - I never use the neck cover as her mane rubs easily - again this has been the case with many different makes of rug.
