Anyone done one? Recommendations?

Have been mooching around on the net and with flights on top, there's very little change out of £1200/£1300 and I'm not sure I can justify that much for only 7 days. I guess they're worth it though?

Definitely, and I can't recommend Double E ranch in New Mexico enough - www.doubleeranch.com a proper working ranch where you are expected to join in. If you have your own horses be wary of 'dude ranches' or pretty much any that allow children. For H&S reasons, you'll find them very, very slow going.

Have a look on www.hiddentrails.com too for a good variety worldwide that all have a good reputation

www.unicorntrails.com is also great.

Double E definitely has my vote though, worth every single penny.

Thank you

Ditto what Doodlebug said about 'dude ranches' and children if you can ride they are very slow and boring. Sorry can't recommend any where to go. In Oz have you looked at the 'Jillaroo / Jackaroo' places? Some are holidays others are 'schools', which might be interesting.

If you just want a trecking holiday I can highly recommend
'Western Ranges Horse Treks' in NZ.
