Hello...just a silly random query before I respond to a buyer and do not wish to offend anyone so tryingt o tread carefully so as I am pondering it alone and would be interested in your thoughts. As many of you will know, if there is a fruitcake buyer out there, I will attract them...you name it..I've had them ring! Before I get shot down by any fluffies out there for selling, hard enough to make the decision to sell but after my accident, I have decided to cut down my numbers so I can be my best with a few horses rather than half best with all. I am currently advertising my 3yo sports horse by Brief Encounter & his mum, my TB broodmare having just sold my 3yo new forest-that was a saga in itself! Now I have slight buyer paranoia after the last saga.. was woken at half 6 this am by a text from a potential buyer about my broodmare. we've all had the timewasters...and the ones promising the best home in the world ever...but can you call them back because they can't afford to call your mobile...this is a slightly different one, and not sure what to think...I would feel awful if this is genuinely true but buyer patience wearing very thin so just letting you lot put the thinking cap on! I didn't reply from the same phone but from my other mobile as it was on the same network so free-I've just spent £74 on mobile selling Juniper returning peoples calls-my feeling is if they are interested, they should call the seller & not expect the seller to foot the call bill for timewasters etc-lets face it they make up a large percentage of responses if we are honest. anyway. called her 1130 from withheld number on my proper mobile she didn't answer so i left a voice message. I immediately got a reply to the ad number mobile saying please only text or email as she was deaf hence the text. was bit ruder than that & no email left/given. If her hearing is that bad, would she have a mobile/be able to listen to the message or am i having a new 'can't afford to call cherub' who's using a pretty shameful excuse.Her original text was asking for price as advertised p/o/a negotiable to the right home. it seems she wanted my mare to companion & be broodmare to live out (eek tb!)on 15 acres and to go with her "a appy youngster" and an ex race horse and to breed. not sure what an appy is but I worry too much and had advertised as not to be ridden...I do not wish to mortally offend anyone...except timewasters and feel bit awkward about selling my lovely mare who I've had 9 years to someone who can't afford to call/reluctant to speak to me...maybe I'm just having post brandy butter grizzles or am just being picky or following my instincts...I have tooooo much time on my hands to contemplate silly things, but it really struck me as odd...what you thinking?xxx

All my neddies (dark bay is an old TB) live out. ;)
Appy = appaloosa

I would text back and ask for her email. :)

did wonder about appalosa thanks..thought typo for nappy as she would NOT be a great example setter! She can't live healthily out as mentioned in ad-too scared as prone to being bullied & if out on wet gets pus in foot/abcesses and tends to panic & hurt herself...totally different horse if she's in over night or in bad weather...brave,confident healthy & content...I had asked for email earlier but no reply (best part of 3 hours ish).......mince pies for you for suffering my epic thank you:D

I am hearing impaired, and have a mobile phone, which I use to text. I can, using the loudspeaker, just about hear a bit on the phonne, but it is a real strain and I find it really stressful to try. Of course a mobile phone is useful to me, and in an emergency I could call from help as the person receiving the call you could hear me.

If you don't get a reply with her email, I would look for a different buyer as it doesn't sound like you are happy with the potential home anyway.

I have hearing difficulties too and tend to prefer texting/email, but I would never have approached a seller this way, I would have asked someone else to make the call for me.

I think I'd be inclined to say...

"Thank you for your interest, however I do not feel my mare could live out and although I appreciate your difficulty I am not comfortable negotiating over the phone. Please could you ask a friend to call me on your behalf and I will be happy to answer all your questions then."

If they aren't cranks then that shouldn't offend them and should make your life easier too. For what it's worth I wouldn't entertain any price negotiation done by text at all. POA is done so that you can speak to the buyer and get a feel for them, or is in my case!

Good luck!

PS I have a deaf friend and her mother always makes her calls for her when they are horse hunting!

I have a few deaf friends, including my mum, and they all have mobiles but text only. It is possible she has slight hearing but is self conscious of her voice.

Thank you Teasle, I'm very conscious of not offending as appreciate it must be hard sometimes so thank you for your reply...

sorry sounds odd to me i have deaf friends that can hear phones, why didnt she have a hearing person call for her, if she cant possibly speak very well

Wowser & Meowy..so hard to tell about the home from a deciphered single text and again the helpful friend would have worked if explained to me from the outset i would never have minded & happily emailed etc

I had thought she may have had someone listen to her mobile on her behalf which is why I wondered why she didn't ask them to call for her/answer mine...

Thank you Spiritedly...think it must be very hard to explain to strangers who don't necessarily need to know (like me) so appreciate your reply......will try the texting re speaking to a friend & hope I don't come across too scary!:D
