I keep coming across eaten corn on the cobs when I go out riding around the yard and out hacking.. The most bizarre thing is that I never see a field that grows them.. Does anyone else come across these riding? Where do they come from? Lol.. Pointless thread but just puzzles me! Lol.

Probably out of sight, but many gamekeepers and landowners grow maize as pheasant cover. The deer, squirrels and probably other critters carry it to eat later/away from other corn nibblers.

I wondered about it for a while, too, until I started riding further afield and saw the mini-plantations! Yesterday I saw a squirrel trying to get one up his tree. The laize was bigger than him, bless his fluffy legs. :D

Omg, i thought it was just me who wondered this! :) I find them all the time in our field. I know we've got foxes & badgers though, so i always assumed it was them...although i have absolutely no idea where they get them from! We also have a lot of marrow bones in the field.... :D

Now I know I'm not the only one! I find them on the road, in the fields, on the bridle paths.. Thought we had some random little corn eating people here in Essex! Lol

Aaaaah, that's what it is, I've found corn cobs in the field

I did evict a pheasant when putting hay out last week

Should I be bothered about the horses eating them?

crows will also pick up the maize cobs and try and fly off with them, the cobs are just leftovers from a maize crop;) our farmer grows the maize for the cattle and we quite often find half eaten cobs in our field, our horses have never tried eating them but the greedy pony did, came out the same it went in, maize is obviously as digestible to horses as sweetcorn is to us;)

I always thought it was badgers that were the main culprits for stealing corn cobs.

My friend's dog became very unwell and had to have emergency surgery as she had a blockage in her gut and the vet removed a corn cob! Greedy dog must have found it on a walk and taken a fancy to it.
