Got asked this down the yard yesterday and it is bugging me:

Why is a flash called a flash noseband?

Why do we call heavy outdoor rugs New Zealands?

If anyone can help I would be very grateful

I may be wrong but wasn't the old fashioned canvas rugs called New Zealands? Not sure why they were called that though, maybe they were founded in NZ.

Not a clue about the flash though.
 

The rugs are so called because I think they originated in NZ.

& the Flash, well maybe it's because it looks like a flash on the horses face? When viewed head on it's always looked like that to me anyway!
